Wildlife Veterinary Externship – 14-Day Field Experience in South Africa
Wildlife Adventure Africa offers an immersive 14-day wildlife veterinary externship for veterinary students seeking hands-on experience in conservation and field-based wildlife medicine.

This externship takes place in Limpopo Province, South Africa, and is entirely field-based. Participants work directly alongside experienced wildlife veterinarians during real-world veterinary procedures involving free-ranging and managed African wildlife.

Clinical Exposure & Field Experience Includes:
Assisting with wildlife immobilizations and relocations
Monitoring anesthesia and vital parameters
Participating in physical examinations and health assessments
Assisting with blood collection and diagnostic procedures
Exposure to disease investigation and field necropsy (when applicable)
Learning wildlife drug protocols and darting procedures
Working with a variety of wildlife species in a conservation setting

Every day is dependent on active veterinary cases and wildlife management needs, providing dynamic, case-based learning.

Program also includes exciting excursions!

Program Structure
This is a full-time, immersive externship experience. There are no classroom lectures; all learning occurs in the field through direct participation and mentorship by wildlife veterinarians.

Weekdays focus on veterinary fieldwork. Structured excursions are included during non-veterinary activity days.

International students are welcome.

Requirements

Eligibility & Requirements
Currently enrolled veterinary students (all years welcome)
Pre-veterinary students with a strong interest in wildlife medicine may apply
Strong interest in conservation and field-based veterinary medicine
Ability to work in outdoor environments
Physically capable of participating in field activities
Professional attitude and willingness to learn

No prior wildlife experience is required.
