Description
Are you a veterinary student looking for a hands-on externship where you can build surgical confidence, ask questions, and truly be part of the team?
DVMRS, a deeply rooted, community-focused small animal practice in Fort Myers, Florida, is offering externship opportunities for students who want real clinical exposure in a supportive, high-leveraged environment.
This is more than shadowing. You will be encouraged to get involved, think through cases, and grow at your own pace alongside an experienced team that genuinely enjoys teaching.
What Your Experience Will Look Like During your time with us, you can expect:
Exposure to a diverse small animal caseload, along with occasional reptile cases
Hands-on surgical involvement, including exposure to complex soft tissue and orthopedic procedures (like knee surgeries) kept in-house
Support from an energetic staff with a strong 2:1 to 3:1 technician-to-doctor ratio
Direct, one-on-one mentorship from experienced veterinarians with a senior DVM always on-site
A look into a sustainable practice model with zero weekend hours and no on-call duties
What We Offer A welcoming, hospitality-driven environment with true practice autonomy
Flexibility in scheduling your rotation dates
Mentorship tailored to your clinical goals and comfort level
The opportunity to explore beautiful Southwest Florida—from local coastal beaches to kayaking at Manatee Park
The opportunity to build relationships with our team that could naturally lead into a full-time associate role after graduation, if it feels like the right fit on both sides
If you are looking for an externship where you will feel supported, included, and challenged in the right ways, we would love to chat with you. Please reach out to amber@dvmrs.com to learn more.
