- PennHIP DVM Specialist for AIS
Description
PURPOSE OF JOB:
This fully remote DVM role focuses on the review, interpretation, and reporting of PennHIP radiographs to support the evaluation of canine hip quality and joint health. Responsibilities include assessing radiographic image quality and positioning, interpreting hip imaging studies for evidence of hip laxity and degenerative joint disease, calculating distraction index measurements, and validating AI-assisted measurements for clinical accuracy. The position also involves preparing detailed diagnostic imaging reports, evaluating veterinarian proficiency submissions, and maintaining accurate breed registry and database records.
**This is a contractor role with flexible scheduling options, including part-time, full-time, and weekend shift availability. We are open to candidates in North America, Europe, and Australia. Compensation is provided on a per-case commission basis. **
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate PennHIP radiographs for adequate quality and proper positioning. Training covering specific PennHIP set-up and scoring details will be provided virtually.
- Perform routine interpretation of radiographs (hip- extended, compression, and distraction views) for clinical assessment of hip quality, including assessment of coxofemoral degenerative joint disease (DJD).
- Analyze and coordinate hand-calculated distraction index measurements with those generated by artificial intelligence tools to arrive at the most reliable and rapid measures of hip laxity
- Generate comprehensive and accurate diagnostic imaging reports for all PennHIP cases using the PennHIP reporting software.
- Evaluate a specified set of radiographs from 3 separate dogs, to determine the proficiency of new PennHIP veterinarians in general practice
- Communicate directly with submitting clinics regarding inadequate radiographic technique and provide constructive suggestions for correction.
- Discuss complex cases with staff radiologists as needed, specifically for abnormalities falling outside of standard DJD or hip joint laxity.
- Communicate with referring veterinarians to provide case updates or gather necessary clinical context.
- Interact with technical support to resolve questions or concerns regarding case submissions, client data, or patient information.
- Meet regularly with the PennHIP Director, Gail Smith, for scheduling matters and guidance on unusual or complex cases.
- Accurately enter all PennHIP data into the appropriate breed-specific registries.
- Ensure the overall database remains up-to-date, organized, and strictly accurate at all times.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Prior experience in orthopedics or diagnostic imaging highly preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with veterinary professionals.
- High level of comfort using diagnostic software and database entry systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fully remote environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee will work remotely from a home office setup of their choosing.
