Description
Dirigo Veterinary Care | Waterville, Maine
Experience Private Practice the Way It Was Meant to Be.
At Dirigo Veterinary Care, we believe the best way to prepare for practice is to be part of it.
We're offering 2–4 week externships for veterinary students who want more than shadowing. Our goal is to give you an authentic look at life in a privately owned small animal practice while helping you build confidence, develop clinical skills, and experience what it means to practice alongside a collaborative, supportive team.
Whether you're exploring career options or preparing for graduation, you'll be encouraged to ask questions, participate in cases, and become an active member of our hospital during your time with us.
Learn Alongside an Experienced Mentor
Practice owner Dr. Matt Townsend has spent his career building successful veterinary hospitals and enjoys helping students bridge the gap between the classroom and clinical practice.
Your externship is tailored to your level of experience. As your confidence grows, so will your involvement. You'll have the opportunity to discuss cases, refine clinical reasoning, strengthen communication skills, and gain insight into the decision-making that happens behind every patient visit.
Learning doesn't just happen in the exam room...it happens through conversations, collaboration, and working alongside a team that enjoys teaching.
Discover Central Maine
Located in Waterville, Dirigo Veterinary Care offers the opportunity to experience life in one of Maine's most beautiful regions. Spend your time outside the hospital exploring lakes, mountains, hiking trails, local restaurants, and everything that makes central Maine such a unique place to live and visit.
If you're looking for an externship where you'll leave with greater confidence, stronger clinical skills, and a clearer picture of what practicing high-quality medicine in private practice can look like, we'd love to chat. Email elaina@dvmrs.com for more info!
